I look forward to seeing everyone once more in the new year.

The last school day of September.  It has been a beautiful week. Next week maybe nor so much. All in all a good week.

September 12, 2017
It is hard to believe we are into the second week of school.  In class we have been reading stories about return to school experiences. We have found that our daily routines are not that much different from the stories we read; morning circle, greetings, alphabet songs, counting, recess, crafts (painting), science (flower boxes), story time, singing, and even some play time.  In painting this week we are focusing on the colors red, yellow, and blue.

Welcome back to a new start to the school year. I hope everyone had chance to relax and rest up over the summer.  Here at school we have been getting to know one another and get started back into our regular schedule.  Our morning routine includes basic skills, circle time, crafts (painting), Smartboard activities, special classes (music, gym), Bookflicks, (literature program) GoNoodle (Daily Physical Activity program) and when weather permits we work on our flower boxes.

Wednesday 14 June 2017

June 14, 2017
It looks like it is going to be a little cooler for a few days.We have been enjoying the heat but it is nice to get a break from it.  We have been learning about friendship in class and some of the challenges that can arise in these relationships.  Learning to get along, sharing, taking turns and being a good sport are all things that need to be learned.

Wednesday 7 June 2017

June 7, 2017
It is another beautiful day. Although it can get a little warm in the classroom by the end of the day. We have finished  Dr. Suess and are now reading The Berenstain Bears. It is getting closer to the end of the year and time seems to be going faster.

Thursday 11 May 2017

May 11,2017
Our theme of Dr. Suess is going very well.  Our students very much enjoy the stories and like to participate whenever possible. Although I must admit it can be a challenge to read.

Monday 1 May 2017

Monday, May 1, 2017
The sun is out.  With any luck at all we will get our flower boxes started this week.  We are also working on a unit of Dr. Suess in our story time.  We have been using a web site called Raz Kids. It has a variety of reading books for different levels of reading abiltity. It can be accessed from home by going to Raz Kids then choosing Student Log In then typing in eweekse when asked for teacher, after that choose your students name, select the turtle for password, then select the green arrow.  The next screen should be a rocket ship.Click on it and the reading selections should appear. Good luck and text or call me if you have trouble.

Monday 24 April 2017

April 24, 2017
It has been a little wet for starting our flower beds, but we hope it will dry up enough so we can get a start on them.  In the classroom we have begun some seedlings that are just about ready to put out.  If the weather cooperates. We are looking at "new life" and plants this week.

Wednesday 19 April 2017

April 19, 2017
Another Easter has come and gone.  It was a good time for reflection and finding time to just be calm in the middle of our busy world.  We have now begun enjoying the season of spring, new life and getting outdoors more often.  We will be starting our flower boxes soon.  That has been a favorite activity in the class.  A chance to see things grow and the arrival of flowers.

Thursday 13 April 2017

April 13, 2017
The Easter break has arrived.  I wish everyone a Happy Easter and I hope everyone has a chance to rest and visit with friends and family.  We have finished reading Benjamin's Box. A story That follows Jesus through Holy week through the eyes of a child.  It was well received by our students.  We worked on several Easter projects, which hopefully have found their way home.

Monday 3 April 2017

April 3, 2017
It's great to be back after the break. We are all getting back into the school routine and activities.  Our students are participating in a computer reading program called "Raz Kids" and they seem to be enjoying it.  We are also starting a Religion activity to get us ready for Easter called Benjamin's Box.

Wednesday 22 March 2017

March 22, 2017
This morning it was raining.  Maybe spring has arrived, I am hopeful.  This week we will be finishing a successful month of Robert Munch.  Our students have been very attentive to his stories and have even helped out with some of the repetitions in his books.  Now that St Patricks' Day has past we will be focusing on Easter.

Tuesday 14 March 2017

March 14, 2017
Our month of Munch is going well.  He seems to be a favorite of all our students.  We have done a few St. Patricks' Day crafts, one of which was with our Best Buddies.  We will soon be focusing on Easter.  It is so nice to have the weather finally warm up.  Our students really enjoy being outside and able to play.

Wednesday 8 March 2017

March 8, 2017
Snowy out this morning.  We have been thinking about summer with our reading of Robert Munch books: Angela's Airplane, Mud Puddle, and Up Up Down.  Maybe if we think warm thoughts we can hurry along Spring.

We have started our Month of Munch.  We will be reading Robert Munch books and using them as a means to promote: word recognition, discussion and identification skills.  We will be reading Thomas' Snowsuit and Angela's Airplane this week.

A new week begins after I hope was a peaceful and relaxing break for everyone.  We will be finishing our study of Fairy Tales and beginning a unit on Robert Munch in the near future.  I am looking forward to his stories and the engagement of our students.

Thursday 9 February 2017

February 9, 2017
It has been cold out. The kind of days we like to stay indoors and read a book.  We have been reading about Fairy Tales.  Last week we read; The Three Little Pigs, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  This week our stories will be Hansel and Gretel, The Gingerbread Man, and a different version of the Three Little Pigs. We are also comparing the books to the animated versions on the Smartboard.

Tuesday 17 January 2017

January 17, 2017
The weather has warmer up, but it is still winter and that seems appropriate with the Snowmen at Night book we are reading.  A snowman is found to be a little different in the morning and a boy wonders what may have causer the change.

Monday 9 January 2017

Happy New Year.
January 9,2017.

Welcome back to a new year here at EES2 St. Matthew. I hope everyone had a restful break. We will be starting the year with the theme of snowmen. Somehow that seems appropriate given the weather outside.
