November 12

Tuesday, November 12, 2019
After a cold weekend and somewhat warmer Remembrance Day it is nice to be back at school with a promise of a nicer week.  We worked on painting some Poppies last week and are going to be attending our Remembrance Day Service later today. It is a time for reflection and quiet.
Hopefully later this week we will be starting to practice some Carols in class to get ready for the Christmas season that is almost upon us.  Again the year just seems to be going by so fast.  We have a new student in the class and are working at adapting our schedule to best meet the needs of an added student.

The weather has certainly turned colder, with snow and ice.  Halloween is over and we are now starting to get ready for Remembrance Day.  We will be doing some crafts to commemorate the day.  We will also be getting ready to start a winter theme.  It is hard to believe it is still fall.  We are anticipating a new student and look forward to including him in our social network.  Some of our students have begun using Raz Kids, a basic literacy program I will tell you more about soon and something that our students can do at home as well.

October 28, 20019

It has been a busy time.  Lots of new routines to get established, new friends to make, and a chance to renew old friendships and acquaintances. We have been working on Halloween crafts and hopefully some of them have made it home.  We will be carving out a Jack-O-Lantern later this week and that always tends to be an exciting time.  We are also celebrating Faith Day in school, this year over two days; Friday, October 25 and Monday October 28.  If only the weather would stay warmer it would be a great week.

The weather has turned nice.  Warm, fresh, and green.  It is so nice to see the signs of summer.  Our students are enjoying this change of season as well.  In the classroom be are continuing with our readings of Robert Munch.  Currently going over "Mortimer."  We are working on socialization in the classroom and in the school.  Some of our social stories are helping our students develop calming strategies and to follow basic social conventions.  This week we had a fire drill and with a little help our class did very well.

Funny weather we are having once more.  I'm never sure if it's early spring or late winter.  This week we read "Where the Wild Things Are."  A wonderful book to listen to, or for the beginning reader. We will soon be focussing more on the Canadian childrens' author Robert Munch. Our first book of his that we will be looking at will be "Mud Puddle."

It is hard to believe the week has gone by this quickly. We started out with sunshine and warm weather and now we are worried about snow once more.  Our class has been getting back into the routine of school and doing well.  It can be challenging to settle down after a break but I am pleased with how quickly they have managed to do so.

It has been good coming back to school after the spring break. It is extra nice having the warm weather here with us as well. It has been a quiet week, getting back into the classroom routine getting to some of the Lacrosse lessons being offered to the school.  Many of our students have been working on getting to the gym and watching the program.  We have a few students that have taken a real interest in the reading program Raz Kids and are learning to work the program. Others are checking it out and seeing how it works. I hope everyone gets out to enjoy the warm weather.

I know the cold must end sometime. I just hope it will be soon.  Our students get outside whenever possible but lately there have some indoor recesses.  We continue to work on our literary skills and some of our students have taken an interest in the Raz Kids reading program and are developing their ability in it.  Keep warm thoughts and maybe next week I can talk a little about warm weather.

The weather has turned cold and windy.  Hopefully this will not last.  Last week we celebrated the New Year with a liturgy in the gym.  Several of ou students were able to attend with help from our assistants.  It has been a busy time in the class with the comings and goings that are all part of our daily routines.  We are working on learning, focussing on, two special words this month that we have put up on our Core word wall, stop and go. We will add to these words each month.

We had an exciting week last week.  We welcomed a new student to our class.  He is in grade 1 and is fitting into our class very well.  We look forward to getting to know him and the formation of new friendships in the class.  We have also started dance classes with our inclusion classes and are taking advantage of these opportunities wherever possible.
